      Just when you thought the manufacturing industry had digested ISO certification, along comes another demand for certification and compliance.  AS9100 is an aerospace industry standard that encompasses ISO 9000 and 9004 and adds 80 or so additional requirements to help ensure quality and customer satisfaction.

      If you are doing business with any of the aerospace industry companies such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, General Dynamics, NASA or others in the defense industry, civil or commercial aviation, then you’ve probably already heard of AS9100. Everyone laments when faced with more documentation, more work process requirements, more audits and more training- not to mention the expense in time and manpower to jump through this latest hoop of fire. Take heart, because AS9100 certification may not be as bad as it seems at first glance.

            When ISO certification was first introduced, it represented a lot of work for everyone involved, documenting work processes, taking measurements, controlling documents, having a lot of meetings and in general turning the company upside down to get ready for the all-important certification audit.
