Is Yours Current?

The "been there, done that" theory of warehousing: looking at your operations today the same way you did yesterday; not realizing that the complexion of warehousing is changing as the world is getting smaller, that customers are wanting more choices and that the supply chain is needing more information more quickly and more efficiently.

If you're a "been there, done that" kind of warehouse, your future successes depend on your willingness to realize the old theories no longer pertain to the new order of distribution. It's time to look at some of the current realities.

Reality #1:
The fundamental challenge of the warehouse is to provide enough flexibility to be customer-driven.

It's probably a scary thought, relinquishing your warehouse to your customers. Remember: who is actually keeping your warehouse in business? You? Your employees? To a certain extent, yes; however, without the customer, you'd have no business, and without business, you'd have no capital, and without capital, well, you would be doing another job in another place that is customer-driven.
