The plastic production machinery market in Mexico includes injection machinery, blow molding equipment, and extrusion machinery molds, and spare parts. Also included are plastic bag forming and filling machines, plastic bottle filing and washing machines, and palletizers.

      This rapidly developing sector has seen tremendous change in the last five years. Not only has it grown in the use of plastic packaging containers, it has extended the sector into several other areas, including production machinery, materials, and, recycling equipment and materials.

      Changes to packaging have created an increase in the existing range of packaged products and the introductions of new technologies, designs and materials. Plastic production and packaging machinery is mostly imported from the United States. Mexico only produces complementary equipment such as conveyors, sealing machines, etc. European countries such as Germany, Italy, and France are exporting some equipment to Mexico; however, this represents less than 20 percent of the Mexican imports. U.S. plastic container and packaging machinery manufacturers have seen a 12 percent increase in exports or over $250 million from 2004 to 2006.
