Developments such as the massive LG. Philips Displays
project in Gómez Palacio will spark a chain reaction of future
projects.
At least that’s what the Durango government hopes.
Jorge Andrade Cansino, director of the state’s economic
development department, says the evidence is already there. One
LG. Philips Displays supplier has announced plans to move next
to the television fabrication plant. More suppliers are expected
to follow.
For Durango, this represents an important step in the
development of industries other than its traditional garment,
mining or forestry. It is another major step toward development
of an international industry.
“Durango had the traditional production chains that
were oriented toward the domestic market; those productive areas
that had been developed with the old Mexico that had been
growing within itself and not toward foreign markets,” Andrade
