Pet accessories include a myriad of pet-related products including dog collars, leashes, water bowls, cages, fish tanks, toys, clothing, pet beds, grooming products and other products used for the care and entertainment of household pets.

      Within the market for pet accessories in northeast Mexico, there are opportunities for small and medium U.S. companies to enter in the niche area of premium products as well as with new accessories in a range of price levels. Market overview

      The culture of owning pets is growing throughout Mexico. In 2005 there were 285 million households in the country. Of these households, an estimated 80 percent had at least one pet, and as a whole, there were an estimated 25.9 million pets in the country. The market for pet products as a whole has been growing significantly in the past decade. The United States Agricultural Trade Office in Mexico reported in its 2003 pet food study that the market for imported pet food is growing and presents an excellent opportunity for U.S. exporters.
