        Campeche is a land of many activities offering great opportunities to foreign investors.

            Strategically located in the Gulf of Mexico, with excellent communications and infrastructure, its biggest asset is its people, always willing to develop new activities required in the modern world. Its people have a good standard of education and the government facilitates several training programs to satisfy the needs of investors.

            The state currently has 15 operating maquilas and two under construction. Maquilas, mostly textile, employ more than 7,200 workers in the state.

            “We made the decision for Southern Mexico because of its close proximity to the United States, its virgin territory meant ample availability of labor, there is no red tape, clean communities and a safe place to live and work,” says Mohamed Yusuf Amdani, CEO of Karim’s Group, which recently established textile operations in the state.

            “Plus there is ample room for expansion and growth.”

            The state is bounded by Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Guatemala . It has a population of about 700,000. Campeche is divided in eleven municipalities; Calakmul, Calkini , Campeche , Candelaria, Carmen, Champotón, Escárcega, Hecelchakan, Hopelchen, Tenabo and Palizada.

            Karims was established in 1991 in Honduras and has grown into Campeche, where it makes tops and bottoms for Jockey, Tommy and others. Karims has also established a subsidiary in Campeche called Consorcio de Servicio de Campeche , for building and leasing turnkey projects.

            “Our experience in Southern Mexico has been great,” says Amdani. “Even the companies we’ve built plants for have had a great experience. There is no saturation of industry. Each city has one facility and provides sufficient space for growth and expansions.”

            Campeche has the infrastructure of industrial parks with top facilities and the highest technical needs required by the manufacturing and service investments.

            Industrial activity includes agriculture, aquaculture, manufacturing, food processing, tourism and commercial and financial services.

            The main universities in the state are Universidad Autonoma de Campeche, Instituto Tecnológico de Campeche, Instituto Campechano and Universidad Autónoma del Carmen.

            Campeche's infrastructure includes close to 3,000 kilometers of federal, state and toll highways and 800 new finished roads. It has two international airports, in Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen; three mid-level seaports (Lerma, Seybaplaya, and Ciudad del...
