In today’s competitive climate
companies are looking for ever increasing ways to improve their
delivery times. By becoming a Certified Company (Empresa
Certificada) in Mexico, exporters may become more efficient in
their trade operations and import/export procedures by
eliminating unnecessary customs requirements. As of May 9,
further benefits have been decreed for maquiladoras that have
complied with certification requirements.

rewarding benefits were published in the Official Gazette of the
Federation on May 9, 2005. The new benefits include, among
others:
•The exemption for Certified Companies to apply for an extension
of the company’s maquila and PITEX programs for the importation
of new materials, machinery and equipment required for their
production process. Therefore, maquilas and PITEX are now
allowed to import on a temporary basis all the goods required
for the company’s manufacturing and/or assembly operations
without having to request an extension to the company’s program.
•Exemption of temporary import requirements.
•Certified service maquilas will be allowed to carry out any
type of service; and are hence exempted from the restrictions
and limitations regarding the type of services a regular maquila
can carry out.
•Concerning annual trade reports, service maquilas and PITEX
companies will only be obligated to report total sales and
exports, as opposed to a more complicated and detailed report.
