FedEx wants business and industry in Mexico to know it has a
solution for transportation problems.
Jorge Torres, managing director for FedEx Express Mexico’s north
district, gave a presentation recently at the ExpoLogistica 2007
trade show in Ciudad Juárez, Chih.
Torres is in charge of the airport, customs and distribution
operations in 17 states of Mexico. He directs a team of 350
employees. Torres started in FedEx in 1991. Among the different
positions he has covered are quality manager for Mexico and
Central America; operations senior manager for Guadalajara and
the Bajio area; and director of operations for almost five
years. He has a BS in communications and two masters degrees in
quality and global business administration. He has written
articles about logistics, competitiveness, quality and
leadership, and has given more than 70 conferences on the same
subjects. In 2004 he won the title of Best Executive in the
Premio Nacional de Logistica sponsored by the Association of
Executives in Logistics, Distribution and Traffic.
Torres explained FedEx’s Transborder Distribution service and
its benefits to maquilas and related companies. He also promoted
the company’s PyMEx program, an innovative divisional program
that offers small and medium businesses the opportunity to enter
the global market, providing them technology for their
shipments, specialized consultancy and global trade and direct
advice with no additional cost to members.
FedEx Transborder Distribution is a convenient, cost-effective,
value-added delivery alternative for shipments from Mexico to
