In the battle for
long-lasting lenses, Ophir black lenses emerge as a popular
choice among laser operators.
With everyone scrambling to install a
laser, companies have started to pay more attention to
consumable parts in their machines and that’s where Ophir
Optics, Inc. comes in.
The Black magic lenses from Ophir Optics
are made from the highest grade of zinc selenide, which has a
low absorption of power; however, a low-absorption coating adds
an additional element of heat protection
The Wilmington, Mass.-based supplier of
precision infrared and CO2 optics components and laser
measurement equipment manufactures the Black Magic Duralens, a
dark black lens that works in all standard CO2 industrial laser
machines and has less absorption of the laser beam than standard
lenses when combined with today’s high-wattage lasers. A
high-wattage laser puts more demand on its critical components,
such as mirrors and lenses, resulting in higher lens replacement
costs. Thus, many companies are finding that the Black Magic
lens solves some of their laser operating problems.
Doubling the life of a lens can save money
over the course of a year. Every minor improvement that the
operator or maintenance staff gains in cut time, length of lens
life, gas consumption or continual running time ends up
affecting the bottom line. And, for small companies, a lower
cost of production and an increased profit margin can mean
the...
