California's Wakeup Call

If there was "mass hypnosis" in the market over all-electric injection molding machines, the developing national energy crisis is a wake-up call, says Barr Klaus, general manager of Milacron's Elektron Technologies Business.

"You can run two or three all-electric machines on the same amount of electricity as one conventional machine - that registers with molders coping with massive energy price hikes and blackouts," he adds.

"We've doubled the Elektron business every year since its inception three years ago, and in 2000, we expanded production capacity to meet market demand that could reach one out of three machines. While the overall North American market has been relatively flat, the rate of sales for electric injection machines has been accelerating at more than 30 percent per year since 1994."
