Visteon Corporation recently marked a second milestone in Chihuahua with the dedication of the Visteon Cervantes facility in Ciudad Chihuahua. The facility has been operating for more than a year; currently employs 200 people and has gained industry recognition for quality production of vehicle electronics, such as radios, and climate and audio controls. The facility is located on Miguel de Cervantes Avenue in Chihuahua.

The Visteon Cervantes plant supports Visteon’s strategy in the company’s growing electronics business. Visteon’s global new business wins through 2004 continued to be in interiors, climate and electronics – including lighting.

“Visteon has, in the state of Chihuahua, made a major contribution to its Mexican manufacturing capability, employing more than 7,000 people in the Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez plants and offices,” said Manuel González, Visteon Mexico electronics manufacturing director. “The importance of the Mexican operations has continued to grow since our first facilities were installed in Chihuahua in the mid-1980s. In 2004, we opened a technical center in this city, and now we are dedicating the Visteon Cervantes facility.”

Visteon last year opened its Mexico Technical Center in Ciudad Chihuahua.

Among the products manufactured in Cervantes is Visteon’s MACH Voice Link, which combines Visteon Voice Technology with Bluetooth wireless communication to create an interface between consumers’ portable electronic devices — such as mobile phones and personal digital assistants — and their vehicles. Visteon Voice Technology is a voice activation system that recognizes hundreds of verbal commands.

Visteon’s electronics products manufactured in Chihuahua have received international recognition for high quality, such as the J. D. Power and Associates highest-quality AM/FM/Single CD Player supplier award, received in November 2004 for the third time in the past four years. Visteon was the only recipient of the 2004 highest-quality award from among 13 different in-vehicle receiver/playback systems rated in consumer surveys by J.D. Power in the AM/FM/Single CD Player category.

Among those attending the dedication event was Chihuahua Gov. José Reyes Baeza, and Chihuahua Mayor Juan Blanco.
