Officials
at Van Dorn Demag Corporation and Demag Ergotech GmbH announced an
alliance that will combine their North American marketing, sales
and service functions.
“Combining Van Dorn
Demag’s existing lines with select Demag Ergotech high tech
machines such as their high speed and multi-component systems, as
well as standard small machine ranges, produces many benefits for
our valued customers,” says William Carteaux, newly appointed
president and CEO of Van Dorn Demag. “This alliance also will
strengthen the presence of both companies in
North America
, and allow us to truly deliver
more to our customers.
“From a customer’s
perspective, Van Dorn Demag now offers a full range of machinery
and molding technology to meet the needs of virtually every
application. Molders can now choose from hydraulic, toggle and
vertical to hybrid, electric, multi-component and high-speed.
Combining this selection with our Molder Action Network support
clearly means that Van Dorn Demag is the single source for
molders.”
Helmar Franz, president
and CEO of Demag Ergotech GmbH, said, “Van Dorn Demag’s
experienced sales organization, superb service, and its reputation
for quality, reliable machines, will enhance our market
penetration for the Ergotech Series machines. Through Van Dorn
Demag, we will continue to serve and deliver more for our existing
North American customer base while opening doors to new customers.
“In addition, through
the Demag Ergotech sales network, Van Dorn Demag’s international
customers will have the ability to purchase machines.”
All products will be
sold through the Van Dorn Demag North American sales network. In
addition, one line of machines, the Ergotech Viva, will be offered
over the Internet.
The Van Dorn Demag
product offering will be unified in appearance, but offer
escalating levels of performance. Additionally, as the next
generation of the Pathfinder control is developed it will be
adapted to the entire Van Dorn Demag line of machines.
“The combining of
Demag Ergotech with Van Dorn Demag in
North America
is a prime example of the
synergistic relationship that exists between our two companies,”
says Carteaux. “One brand strengthens another, in an environment
conducive to an exchange of ideas and the development of many
synergies that ultimately benefit the customer.”
He added that Van Dorn
Demag and Demag Ergotech have a history of working together to
develop and share new technologies.
“In recent years, our
two companies have worked together to develop the Caliber and
all-electric IntElect Series, as well as several projects on
control technology. Therefore, a more formalized working business
and sales arrangement in
North America
is a natural part of our
relationship,” Carteaux says.
Van Dorn Demag
Corporation,
Strongsville
,
Ohio
, has been a leading injection
molding machine manufacturer since shipping its first machine in
1945. With the largest installed base of any U.S.-based IM
manufacturer, the company produces, supplies and services a
full-range of injection molding machines, including the Van Dorn
Demag Caliber, Spectra, HT, IntElect, Newbury, Praxis, Cadence,
Ergotech El-Exis, Ergotech Multi, and Ergotech Viva Series
machines. Demag Ergotech GmbH,
Schwaig
,
Germany
, has manufactured injection
molding machines for over 50 years, serving hundreds of
applications around the world.
Founded in 1872, Van
Dorn Demag Corporation started as Van Dorn Company, a manufacturer
of iron accessories such as wrought iron furniture, mailboxes and
jail cells. Van Dorn Demag manufactured its first injection
molding machine in the
United States
in 1945 and participated in the
first National Plastics Exhibition in 1946, contributing to the
early days of the plastics industry.
The company quickly
became a leader in the manufacture of injection molding machinery
as a result of product innovation, close attention to quality,
reliable products, and customer service. The company has sold more
than 30,000 machines in the world marketplace and has the largest
installed base of machines of any injection molding machinery
manufacturer in the
United States
today. Van Dorn Demag’s
attention to quality has been recognized in a number of ways, such
as attaining ISO 9001 and QS9000 certifications and, in 2001,
becoming the first manufacturer to win the Ohio Award for
Excellence-Level 4, Governor’s Award.
The company became a
member of the Mannesmann AG family through the acquisition of Van
Dorn Plastic Machinery Co. in
April
1993. Van Dorn Plastic Machinery
Co. merged with Mannesmann’s
U.S.
plastic machinery operation to
form the Van Dorn Demag Corporation, improving its financial and
technological position. In
April
1996, Van Dorn Demag Corporation
acquired Newbury Industries, a longtime industry contributor that
specializes in the design and manufacture of vertical injection
machines. This acquisition continues to grow the machine solutions
the corporation offers to injection molders. Newbury Industries
has sold in excess of 12,000 injection molding machines since
1957.
In
1998, Mannesmann AG created the Mannesmann Plastics Machinery
Group, with Van Dorn Demag as a member. With its six member
companies and sales of more than $1.1 billion, MPM is the largest
manufacturer of injection molding machinery in the world.
Recently, Mannesmann AG
(with total sales in excess of $22 billion) was sold to Vodaphone
Airtouch plc. In turn, Vodaphone Airtouch plc sold its $11 billion
Engineering and Automotive businesses, of which Mannesmann
Plastics Machinery is a member, to a joint venture between Siemens
AG and Robert Bosch GmbH for $9 billion in cash, with Siemens
ultimately retaining ownership.
Facilities
Van Dorn Demag
Corporation uses the resources of nearly 00 people and five
modern, highly efficient production facilities to design,
manufacture and support small and large, horizontal and vertical
injection molding machines. Its newest pursuit is a specially
designed and built 77,500-sq-ft facility to house our Molder
Action Network, a customer service center for Modification and
Integration Operation, Aftermarket Parts, Troubleshooting, Field
Service, Training, and Processing Support functions. The new
facility opened in the fall of 2000.
