            Colonial cities, historic museums, major festivals and the offbeat can be found in Guanajuato.

            From El Callejón del Beso (the Alley of the Kiss) to the birthplace of muralist Diego Rivera; from the Cervantino Festival honoring author Miguel de Cervantes (author of Don Quixote) to the mummy museum; Guanajuato holds enough attraction to keep a tourist busy for weeks.

            Founded in the 16th century when silver was discovered in its nearby mountains, the capital city of Guanajuato has retained its colonial architecture. Narrow cobblestone roads twist their way through the downtown center, both aboveground and below.
