Mega Projects
In addition to efforts aimed
at promoting foreign investment, four ongoing projects in the
state are designed to raise the quality of life.
The so-called mega projects range from passenger rail
service connecting cities along the industrial corridor to a
fairgrounds and exposition center in León. The other projects are
development of a business center in Irapuato and an inland port at
the state’s international airport.
The projects are intended to help spur economic
development, and in some cases to guide and shape development. For
example, state leaders want to see León better develop a tourism
industry, so they are creating the fairgrounds-exposition center
there. In Irapuato, state leaders want to see more growth toward
the northern sector of the city and have designed projects
intended to lead growth northward.
